When you safe the most common problem that occurs in using file extension docx is you sometime you can not open it anymore or if you send the docx files to other computer, it can be opened. Well, If Windows is unable to open files with the extension .DOCX you may not have the appropriate program installed or, you may have registry errors. This is the new format for Microsoft Office documents (2007). It is a combination of XML architecture and ZIP compression for size reduction. Microsoft promises the format will be open (published for anyone to use) and prior versions of Office, using components provided by Microsoft for Office 2000, XP, and 2003 will be available to perform document conversion. That is the promises from Microsoft.
If the problem occur when you send email with docx file attachment to your friend and he can not open it. Then you need to save the docx file to the Word 97-2003 Document. If you always want to save in the older compatible format you can click on the Word Options button (always visible at the bottom of the menu displayed with the "Office Button"), and then click on Save at the left of the resulting dialog, and after that you can select the Save files in this format. The default, as you might expect, is Word Document (*.docx). Now, you need to change that to Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc) and your documents will be saved in the old compatible way. And everyone you want can access it.
